How Niko handles what you keep
Niko is a private reading lamp for sentences you want to see again. This notice explains the limited ways the app handles words, pictures, and device permissions. It took effect on September 14, 2026.
The lamp stays on this device
Niko is built as a local companion. Excerpts, source titles, cover image files, tonight-cover flags, coin balance records stored on device, and similar library records are kept in the app sandbox on your iPhone or iPad. The app does not require you to create a profile, sign in, or maintain a remote account in order to write, browse, or read.
When a feature needs the network, it does so for a narrow purpose such as loading this document or completing a transaction through Apple system services. Niko does not operate a Niko-owned cloud library for your sentences.
Words, covers, and the files they sit in
If you add an excerpt, Niko stores the text you typed, the source title you chose or created, optional page notes, featured-cover flags, timestamps, and the cover reference needed to render your magazine layout again. If you attach a picture, the app keeps a prepared JPEG in its local covers folder.
Photos you take or pick from the library remain under your control; Niko keeps only the copies you ask it to save as covers. We do not review your private on-device library for advertising or resale.
Camera, photos, and the microphone prompt
Camera access is requested only when you choose to photograph a cover. Photo library access is requested when you pick an existing image as a cover. Write access is requested when you export a finished magazine cover into Photos.
iOS may also present a microphone explanation when the system camera is opened. Niko does not record, store, or upload audio. You can revoke any of these permissions in Settings; other parts of the library remain usable without a camera.
Keeping, revising, and letting go
Library records remain until you delete an excerpt, remove an empty source you created, clear all content from the Me tab, or remove the app. Deleting an excerpt removes its text from the local library. Cover image files that are no longer referenced may be removed from the sandbox. Uninstalling Niko deletes the local library stored with the app.
Because there is no Niko account graph, we generally cannot reach into a device we do not hold. The practical path is to edit or delete items inside the app, or to remove the app itself.
Sharing and processors
Niko does not sell your excerpts. It does not build an advertising profile from your library. System services provided by Apple, such as Photos, the App Store, and StoreKit, process only what you submit through those system sheets. We have not integrated separate third-party analytics or advertising SDKs into this product.
We do not claim that any device or transmission is immune to failure. We aim to keep the surface small: local files, system pickers, and Apple-mediated commerce where you choose it.
Younger readers
Niko is a reading and cover-making tool, not a social network. It is not directed at children as a place to post in public. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a minor has provided information in a way that concerns you, contact wick.folio@nikoread.app. Please follow the rules that apply to you where you live.
Changes to this notice
If the way Niko handles information changes in a material way, this page will be updated and a new effective date will be shown. Continued use after an update means you have had a chance to read the revised notice in the app.
Requests that applicable laws require us to consider may be sent to wick.folio@nikoread.app, within the limits of a local-only library.
